They present a truly unique visual record of a country and way of life in the throes of dramatic and far-reaching change. As the development of oil resources, increasing trade opportunities and federal unification shaped seven disparate Sheikhdoms into a united county, photographer Ramesh Shukla was there to chronicle the formative years of a nation.

From picturesque scenes of city souqs and portraits of traditional life to the signing of the Federation on December 2, 1971 and the fast – changing city skylines, Ramesh witnessed and recorded history in the making.
