Description

Abul the True Hero

Dr. Irma K. Ghosn

On July 29, 1996 Time Magazine reported that Abul Khair, a 9-year old 3rd grader from the village of Toragar, Bangladesh, had saved a passenger train from a major disaster.  The Bangladesh Raiway gave abul a $ 63.- reward and promised him a job with the railroad when he grows up.  Many people sent checks and letters.  The Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka promised to finance Abul’s education through 10th grade.  Others have asked that the story be written into textbooks as an inspiration for children.  The people of Bangladesh now have their own “Dutch Boy”.
