New Zealand artist Henderson, was so bowled over by the beauty and mystique of Arabia, she decided to create this book. The result is a beautiful collection of pencil sketches and paintings with hand-written captions: a visual discovery of the Arab World. Arabia, the very name has always carried an element of mystique for me. I was full of anticipation as I left New Zealand and its green fields one day in June. What a shock to step out into the harsh light and scorching heat of my new home. Yet slowly, as I became accustomed to the light, the new colours surrounding me I began to awaken to an entirely new form of beauty. Moreover, I became captivated with the colour and culture of the people who dwell here. Everyone knows how the advent of oil during the past three decades has brought dramatic and profound changes in their lives, and yet, beneath the affluent exterior, the essence and traditions of Arabia’s people, deeply rooted in Islam, remains intact.
