Like Gauguin in Tahiti, Tonny Holsbergen has found her painter’s paradise in Oman. And she is expressing her vision in vibrant colours that seem to shine with light and radiate motion. For even years at art school Tonny practiced drawing nudes in motion. She had to capture them quickly and accurately. This could be done only by sensing the artistic essence of the particular figure in a given motion and then drawing rapidly while the instinct lasts, before thought takes over. The image appears on the paper almost as if stamped from the original vision. This lavishly produced book presents her superb pastels, drawings and oil paintings. This actively resulted in several successful exhibitions, commissions from the ministry of Foreign Affairs, an official portrait of Sultan Qaboos and, now, Faces of Oman, a breathtaking book for lovers of Arabian art.
