يندرج هذا الكتاب في سياق الاهتمام المتزايد بدراسة مختلف جوانب التاريخ العربي الفلسطيني، بما في ذلك الحياة الثقافية التي انبعثت منذ القرن التاسع عشر ومطلع القرن العشرين. وقد شهد النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر اهتمام عدد من الدول الأجنبية، كل لأسبابه الخاصة، بإنشاء مدارس في بلاد الشام في ظل الحكم العثماني لهذه البلاد. وامتاز الجهد الروسي في هذا المضمار بإنشاء شبكة من المدارس في فلسطين وفي كثير من المواقع في لبنان وسورية بلغت 114 مدرسة سنة 1914. وكان لخريجي هذه المعاهد دور مهم في مسيرة النهضة الثقافية العربية عامة، أما في فلسطين فكانت لهم الريادة في انطلاقة النهضة بعد إعلان الدستور العثماني سنة 1908. فبرز منهم ميخائيل نعيمه وإيليا أبو ماضي ونسيب عريضة وعبد المسيح حداد وخليل بيدس وإسكندر الخوري البيتجالي وسليم قبعين وشبلي رزق، وغيرهم. تنطوي هذه الدراسة، من جهة، على محاولة لإنشاء صورة متكاملة من التفصيلات المتوفرة للاطلاع على مساهمة خريجي المدارس الروسية في مختلف ميادين النهضة الأدبية، كالتربية والتعليم، والصحافة، والترجمة، والإنتاج الأصيل، ومن جهة أخرى، تتضمن محاولة لتقويم هذه المساهمات في المجالات المذكورة، بشكل موضوعي ونسبي. كما تبين أثرها في الحياة الثقافية في فلسطين والتفاعل بين طلائع النهضة الأدبية والثقافية في فلسطين وبين النهضة الأدبية العربية العامة، التي ظهرت بوادرها منذ أواسط القرن التاسع عشر في لبنان ومصر بصفة خاصة.

المؤلف

حنا أبو حنا، شاعر وباحث ومربّ فلسطيني. ولد في الرينة (قضاء الناصرة) سنة 1928. عمل مديراً للكلية الأورثوذكسية العربية في حيفا، ومحاضراً في جامعة حيفا وكلية إعداد المعلمين. له مجموعات شعرية وكثير من الأبحاث في التراث الثقافي الفلسطيني وسلسلة من قصص الأطفال. حائز وسام القدس للإبداع الشعري، وجائزة فلسطين للسيرة الذاتية.

The book comes in the context of the growing interest in studying the various aspects of Arab Palestinian history, including the rebirth of cultural life since the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The second half of the 19th century witnessed the efforts by a number of foreign powers, each for its own reasons, to establish schools in Greater Syria under the Ottoman rule. The Russian thrust in this field was distinguished by setting up a network of schools in Palestine and in many parts of Lebanon and Syria, whose number reached 114 schools by 1914.

The graduates of these schools played an important role in the Arab Renaissance in general, but in Palestine they became the pioneers of renaissance after the declaration of the Ottoman Constitution in 1908. Most prominent among those are Mikhail Na’imeh, Elia Abu Madi, Nasib 'Aridah, Abdel Masih Haddad, Khalil Baydas, Iskandar al-Khuri al-Baytjali, Salim Qub'ain, and Shibly Rizeq, and others. The study includes an attempt to draw a full picture, based on the available details, of the contribution of the graduates of Russian Schools in the various realms of cultural renaissance, such as education, journalism, translation, original writing on the one hand, and an attempt to evaluate these contributions in an objective and contextual manner on the other. It also traces their impact on cultural life in Palestine and the interaction between the pioneers of cultural renaissance in Palestine and the general Arab cultural renaissance whose early signs appeared since mid 19th century in Lebanon and Egypt specifically.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S)

Hanna ABU HANNA is a Palestinian poet, researcher and educator. He was born in al-Raineh (District of Nazareth) in 1928. He was head of the Arab Orthodox College in Haifa, and lecturer at the University of Haifa and at the Teachers' Training College. He has several collections of poems, and a number of researches in Palestinian cultural heritage, and a series of children books. He holds al-Quds Medal for poetic creation, and the Palestine Award for autobiography.
