d’ Abdo el-Kahi, Joseph Khoury, Suzanne Azar.

The French-authored book summarizes research in religious practices, humanitarian attitudes and beliefs at the levels of behavior, opinions, sentiments and feelings.  This research follows the development over time through a comparison between two similar studies.  The first was conducted in 1989 and the second in 2003.  The book is made up of five chapters.  The first studies the moral and behavioral issues relating to taboos and virtues, and the development of outlookis and positions pertaining to them during the past century and a half.  The second highlights, througth comparisons, the roots of religious beliefs and practices expressed in behaviors and religious rituals protecting against confusion caused by contact with others having difference customs.  In the remaining chapters, the book aims at drawing out the orientations of the different spiritual experiences covering a whole range from superstition to deep faith and relating between these orientations and the divisions of Lebanese society according to confession, age, geographical region, feeling of happiness, and the present cultural trends.  The book tackles the subject of religion and faith in their spiritual depths and discusses beliefs and behaviors founded on principles that can transcend the finite to the infinite.
