Cross-Hatching in Global Culture - A Dictionary of Modern Arab Writers: An Updated English Version of R.B. Campbell's "Contemporary Arab Writers" - A 2 Volume Set.
Academic reference works are rare for modern Arab literature; a fact that drove the research institutes CEMAM and OIB in the year 1996 to bring out a dictionary of modern Arab writers. The present book is the English version of this dictionary, with updated bibliographies and extensive information on the authors. Included are the main authors writing in Arabic who shaped the modern literature of the Arab world. The main entries consist of a short biographical note, an autobiography, a complete bibliography of their works and an extensive bibliography on works written about them.
The present volumes mirror the modern Arab literary scene, so lively, diverse and rich in its facets, in a way much more adequate to literature than traditional compilations of dry data and facts, a way which is literary itself.
